Dualism by Ayla Leisure

Ayla Leisure’s Dualism Returns to the Festival
Some pieces stay with you long after the lights fade. Dualism by Ayla Leisure is one of them — a work that continues to resonate so deeply with Festival-goers that we’re bringing it back by popular demand. This February, you’ll have another chance to experience this mesmerizing installation at the 2026 Festival.

Dualism: A Journey Through Inner and Outer Worlds
At its core, Dualism is Ayla’s exploration of what it means to exist in two realms at once — the physical world that grounds us and the metaphysical world that shapes our inner lives. “A visual representation of the mind and body existing as separate things,” she writes. “Exploring the interplay between our metaphysical and physical world.”

The Heartbeat of the Festival: Connection Through Art
Each year, the Festival becomes a kind of creative reunion — artists, neighbors, families, wanderers — all stepping into the cold to experience wonder together. Ayla feels that energy deeply.
“I love seeing how creative the Portland community is,” she says. “Seeing what everyone comes up with each year is a big highlight of my winter. I love being able to contribute my work to something that also inspires me as an artist.”
That exchange — artists inspiring the community and the community inspiring artists right back — is the heartbeat of this Festival. And Dualism captures that beautifully.
We can’t wait for you to see it glow again this February.
