Call For Venues

Host an artist & join the community

The 12th Annual festival is February 5-13, 2027.

The Portland Winter Light Festival invites community venues to participate in a citywide celebration of light, creativity and connection. As a Community Partner, you help transform Portland with light-based art and immersive experiences while attracting festivalgoers to explore your space, whether you’re a venue, business, nonprofit, or arts organization.

This call is for Community Partner Sites – local businesses, retail locations, organizations, art collectives, maker spaces, and more – with a location or venue to host an artist or venues with confirmed artists. There is one installation per application, and multiple applications are okay. One designated contact per application.

Installations can be light-based art installations or sculptures in windows, colorful and creative outdoor lighting, installations in your own yard or neighborhood, video projections, and more.

We encourage artists to find their own venue to show their installations. Light up your buildings, exteriors, houses, and yards. Find a local business that would like to showcase your work. Ask your neighbors to be involved and create a light community around your PDXWLF exhibition.

PDXWLF makes every effort to match artists with suitable venues, but we cannot guarantee placement. Not all venues will receive an artist.

Frequently Asked Questions

We ask for a minimum of 8′ x 10′ space for artwork. A location with foot traffic and near public transportation is ideal. Large windows with no glazing, tint, or frosting are preferred. Easy access to the windows for art placement, with nothing else up against the windows. Rooms without extraneous interior lights and lights that can be covered or turned off. No super bright exterior lights above the windows. We work to create clusters of art, so if your venue is near other PDXWLF locations, you have a better chance of us being able to program artwork.

Our curatorial team selects artists based on availability, logistics, and street visibility. If your venue doesn’t already have an artist, we will make every effort to program one, depending on the available space and needs of the festival. All artwork will be family-friendly, and we may not be able to accommodate every venue that applies.

We receive hundreds of submissions and carefully review each one to assess the strength of the proposal and determine the best fit for each venue. Artists & venues will be notified on a rolling basis through October 30.

Yes, we encourage venues to show their own art/artists! Please fill out the “Art with Location” application form.

No. At this time, PDXWLF is unable to provide large-scale projection mapping installations at multiple venues due to the significant production costs involved. These types of projects often cost tens of thousands of dollars to produce and install.

We’d love to see more projection-based artwork throughout Portland in the future, and additional funding and sponsorship support would help make that possible.

Yes, absolutely! Please let us know as soon as possible what you’re looking for and your budget, and we’ll do our best to connect you with an artist who fits your needs.

Once we accept a location and/or have an artist to place in that location, we will send you an invoice and link for the participation fee.
