Festival Artists at Maker Faire

Light-based installations capture attention and awards in California.
Maker Faire Bay Area in Vallejo, CA, is a gathering of inventors, artists, engineers, and enthusiasts who come together to share projects and spark ideas. Known as the flagship event of the global maker movement, it highlights creativity and innovation across many disciplines.
This year, Portland Winter Light Festival artists made a strong impression. Several participants received Blue Ribbon Editor’s Choice Awards, a prestigious honor that recognizes ingenuity and innovation.
Festival artists bring light to Mare Island
Representing Portland were Becca Priddy, Andy Batt, Twisty Maurice’s Therese Gietler, Daniel Young, and Darcy Neal, who ran a Maker booth. From Palm Springs, Alice presented the crowd favorite Tesseract.
The Faire’s “Dark Room,” on historic Mare Island, drew thousands of attendees lined up and eager to see illuminated sculptures. The setting: a former naval shipyard that launched over 500 warships and once produced a ship every 17 days during World War II, now fuels creative expression with its industrial backdrop of massive buildings and vintage cranes.
