A Decade of Light
Portland General Electric has been lighting Portland for more than a century—starting in 1889, when they powered just 55 streetlamps downtown. Today, they continue that innovative legacy by supporting artists who use light, energy, and technology to reimagine the city during the Portland Winter Light Festival.
For more than a decade, PGE has proudly powered the Festival, helping create magical, illuminated experiences that brighten even the darkest months.
Art, Technology, and Community
The Festival aligns closely with PGE, which continues to innovate, strengthen communities, and support emerging technology. Their commitment to reliable, forward-thinking energy mirrors the Festival’s blend of art and tech in creating immersive experiences for Oregonians.
“PGE is proud to support the Portland Winter Light Festival, cultivating community through the celebration of light and art, while generating tourism that is vital to downtown businesses,” says Kregg Arntson, PGE director of Community Impact.
Tiny House and STEAM Exploration
This year, PGE’s All-Electric Tiny Home will be on site Feb 6-7, showcasing innovative, energy-saving appliances and devices that help customers reduce emissions and save money.
And for the kids, PGE’s Project Zero Makerspace returns with even more imagination. Designers are transforming the space into an enchanted, illuminated forest where kids craft shimmering, light-up amulets under a canopy of glowing branches. It’s hands-on STEAM learning wrapped in wonder. Join in the fun Feb 6-7.
As PGE describes it:
“PGE’s Makerspace offers a chance for kids to play, tinker, and discover how Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math light up every corner of the Portland Winter Light Festival.”
A Celebration of What Makes Portland ShinE
Throughout their long-standing partnership, PGE has shown time and again how innovation, creativity, and community strengthen Portland.
“This celebration is a tribute to everything—and everyone—that makes Portland shine,” says Kregg Arntson, PGE director of Community Impact.

With over a decade of support from Portland General Electric, the Winter Light Festival continues to illuminate downtown Portland—bringing joy, connection, and creativity to tens of thousands of Portlanders every February.
