Porch/Light

A sequel to last year’s “Utopia”, our new version for 2026 is “Porch/Light”. Connecting with the theme of “All the Little Things”, our existing tree sculpture will be enhanced with flickering lightning bugs, sound by Callie Day, and projected video elements by microscopist James Weiss.

Lessons from our first year taught us that the tree canopy can be further developed as layered fabric segments, more robust for wind, and that the ground and surrounding area can be included as projection surfaces. (A lesson of children playing in the projected light during installation). This project is in honor of my mother, her sisters, and all of their mothers.
