Using aomori nebuta techniques, wire and paper forms glow from within, honoring Old Town’s cultural roots and cultivating community through light.
This light-based window installation celebrates the small, often-overlooked moments cultivated at p:ear through creative mentorship. Using light and sculptural elements, the work brings visibility to quiet acts of care, creativity, and connection that support Portland youth as they grow and thrive. Through education, art, recreation, and job training, p:ear builds trusting relationships with homeless and marginalized youth, affirming personal worth and possibility.
Created collaboratively by p:ear youth, staff, and volunteers, the installation reflects how simple gestures, showing up, listening, and creating together, can ripple outward into lasting personal and community change, transforming care into a visible source of light.
