Micro Macro

Millions of microscopic points coordinate and coalesce into macroscopic pattern and form.

Millions of particles swarm, drift, and respond to your presence. Using real-time computer vision, the installation detects viewers through the window and incorporates them into the system—faces emerge from the chaos, gestures scatter or attract the swarm, bodies become nodes in a living digital network. Drawing on simulations of collective behavior and point cloud reconstructions of Portland spaces, Micro Macro explores how pattern and meaning arise from aggregation. How many stars make a constellation? How many trees make a forest? How many pixels make an image?
