Light Begins Small

This artwork uses light to explore how small changes grow into something larger.Move your hands over the control area to change scale.

Light Begins Small is an interactive light installation exploring scale, attention, and gradual change. A single sculptural tower, about 12 feet tall, rises from twisting steel rods and cross-braced metal. Near the top, a translucent panel made from recycled milk and water jugs catches projected light, carrying faint traces of their former use.

Projected visuals draw from water, air, and flowing currents, unfolding slowly in patterns that never fully repeat. At a nearby control area, visitors use small hand movements to change the scale of the imagery—moving closer to reveal more detail or pulling back to see broader forms. The interaction is simple and open-ended, rewarding curiosity and patience.
