KinetiColor

KinetiColor started out as a static, modular snowflake sculpture to pay homage to wintertime and to challenge myself in video-mapping a complex shape – the beautiful snowflake. The aluminum cutouts are silhouettes of actual snowflake photographs and video mapping of the shapes were done by hand. I decided to motorize the snowflakes to further challenge myself and progress the art of video projection-mapping.

I added an infrared hand gesture controller to allow audience members to affect the rotation of the snowflakes and the video projected onto them.

Interactive art is so powerful and exciting, not only for the people of all ages who play with these artworks, but also for me when I see the joy and smiles on their faces.
