Nature’s Shadow Dance reminds us of the beauty of plants even in wintertime. Two 6ft x 6ft x 2ft screens house individually-addressable LEDs that display varying patterns which then backlight dried plant life hanging in front of the LEDs. These light patterns cast shadows onto the inside front of the screen, resulting in dancing silhouetted patterns. The plants were gathered from an urban forest in West Seattle and include ferns, thistle, wild rose, grasses, and other plants. I try to incorporate natural elements within a technological context, including LEDs and video, in order to show my reverence for Mother Nature and remind others of the importance of preserving our natural world.
