The creative force behind the case
Ezra Cimino-Hurt drives Case of Bass, a Portland venture that transforms vintage suitcases into portable speaker systems. The project initially began in a garage during a slow winter. Using old electronics and a vision to turn forgotten items into art, Ezra’s hands-on approach combines design, audio engineering, and sustainability. As a result, he breathes new life into discarded materials. Each Case of Bass, therefore, blends aesthetics with sound, reflecting Ezra’s craftsmanship and Portland’s spirit. As co-founder and “head dude in charge,” Ezra continuously pushes audio design boundaries with visually striking and impressive pieces.
Ezra’s creation process is both hands-on and experimental. “It’s all scratch-built,” he explains. “I milled this from raw poplar, built a box, encapsulated it, and created a playground to lay out.” Wrapped in reflective vinyl and repeatedly reassembled, each Case evolves organically, thus revealing its character. For Ezra, it’s about more than just sound; it’s about creating something dimensional and interactive. “All in all, it’s super fun,” he adds, capturing the joy in his craft.

You must be within the state of Oregon to purchase raffle tickets. The value of this item is $599.99. This raffle is organized by the Willamette Light Brigade d.b.a. Portland Winter Light Festival.
- Must be 18 years or older to participate.
- Must be physically in the state of Oregon at the time of ticket purchase.
- Need not be present to win.
- Winner must pay all applicable taxes and fees.
- Pick up of the item to be coordinated with the winner.
- Prize is not redeemable for cash.
- Only 99 tickets will be sold. Tickets are sold at a tiered pricing level: 1 ticket for $100, 2 tickets for $175, or 3 tickets for $250. Each ticket constitutes a separate and equal chance to win with all other tickets sold.
- Last day to purchase tickets is Friday, October 25, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
- Grand prize drawing for the case will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at the Portland Winter Light Festival Office at Noon. The winner will be notified by phone and email.
- Raffle ticket purchase is not tax-deductible.
- Willamette Light Brigade/Portland Winter Light Festival employees and partners living in the same household are not eligible to win.
